Exploring AI for public services
Artificial Intelligence (AI) holds the potential to significantly disrupt and enhance public services, and the Norwegian public sector is keenly exploring how to leverage this technology to benefit public services. The exploration of user interaction with AI is still in its nascent stages, with dominant design patterns for integrating AI into public services yet to be fully established. A section of the Norwegian government dedicated to digitalization in the public sector, is interested in investigating the implications of designing for AI within public services.
This project aims to explore the potential of AI-supported services and how users will interact with these innovations. To achieve this, the project will commence with researching various types of AI interfaces currently in use, to gain insights into how AI is already being applied across different tools and platforms. Subsequently, students will embark on design tasks specified by our project partner, focusing on areas where AI application shows promise.
Through a detailed exploration of different types of interfaces, the project aims to create a broad design precedence library. This resource will facilitate a better understanding of effective design strategies for AI in public services, guiding future developments in this area.
Your involvement in this project will cover several key activities:
- Researching existing AI interfaces to understand current applications and gather inspiration.
- Conducting user research to grasp the needs, preferences, and challenges faced by users when interacting with AI
-supported public services.- Engaging in design sketching and prototyping to visualize and iterate on potential solutions.
- Performing simple user testing to ensure that the developed designs meet user needs and are viable for real-world application.
This project offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the transformative impact of AI on public services. By exploring and designing AI-enabled interfaces, you will help pave the way for more efficient, accessible, and user-friendly public services in Norway.
